Project Details
Description
This project developed a new non‑metallic radiopaque material and used it to create a sustainable, single‑use x‑ray side marker for hospital imaging. The work aimed to reduce infection risks and plastic waste by replacing traditional reusable, metal‑based markers with a disposable, plastic‑free alternative. Up to €50k in funding supported trials in Irish hospitals, run in collaboration with Health Innovation Hub Ireland and CombiMark and the research led to UK Patent Application GB1719736.9, where Snow, F. is named as inventor.
Layman's description
This project created a new non‑metal material that that shows up clearly on x‑rays and used it to make a clean, disposable, plastic‑free “left/right” marker for hospital imaging. The aim was to lower infection risks and cut plastic waste by replacing traditional reusable metal markers with a sustainable, single‑use alternative that was trialled in Irish hospitals and protected through UK Patent Application GB1719736.9, naming Fiona Snow as inventor and co-author.
