Personal profile
Research interests
I am the Head of Faculty of Film Art & Creative Technologies at IADT in Dún Laoghaire. Our faculty has a student cohort of over 1800+ full time and part time students studying all aspects of the screen and media arts, psychology and technology. Working with four heads of Department, I am responsible for all aspects of academic delivery, quality assurance, budget and administration and strategic development for the faculty.
I also help lead the FilmEU project. Along with our international partners (Lusofona, Portugal; LUCA, Belgium, VIA Denmark, VSMU Solvakia, LMTA Lithuania, NATFA Bulgaria, and BFM, Estonia) we have been awarded Erasmus+ funding to create FilmEU, the first European University of Film and Media Arts.
I am an active practitioner and researcher. My credits include all genres of television, radio and online; high end, award winning documentary films, international formats and some of the best-known and loved prime time programmes. The documentary 'Flann O'Brien: The Lives of Brian' which I co-wrote & produced was awarded the IFTA for best single documentary in 2007 and 'Connected', a twenty-part series I series-produced, won the IFTA for best Constructed Reality in 2015.
My research interests focus on broadcast policy and documentary practice. Currently, I am an investigator on the Horizon Europe research project Crescine, which aims to enhance the competitiveness of the film industry in small European countries. Additionally, I am working on a project funded by the Irish Broadcasting Regulator, Comisiún na Meáin, where I am surveying and assessing the Irish factual audio-visual sector.
