Biography
Marie O’Neill is the Professional Research Systems Officer at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) in Dublin.
With over 30 years of experience in higher edcuation, Marie previously served as Head of Library and Information Services at Dublin Business School (DBS) from 2006 to 2018. During her tenure, she co-founded and developed the MSc in Information and Library Management, accredited by the Library Association of Ireland. Her career has spanned a range of institutions including King’s Inns, Technological University Dublin, University College Dublin, the Oireachtas, and CCT College Dublin, where she held the position of Head of Enhancement focused on enhancing teaching, learning and research practice across the institution. During her time at CCT, she also served as one of the institution's two associates to the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning and QQI's National Academic Integrity Network.
Marie's professional interests include open access, scholarly communication, and research support. She is an editor for the All-Ireland Journal of Higher Education (AISHE-J) and a peer reviewer for several academic journals. Marie has also presented widely at national and international conferences, including the World Library and Information Congress and has published in the academic literature on topics such as academic integrity, universal design, e-portfolio and open access scholarly publishing. She serves as Local Lead at IADT for the Irish Reproducibilty Network and is one of two institutional representatives on the FilmEU Research Impact Working Group. Marie is currently pursuing a PhD in open access scholarly publishing at University College Dublin.
Throughout her career, Marie has demonstrated a strong commitment to professional development and lifelong learning. She has earned digital badges from the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education including facitator badges in Universal Design for Learning, Getting Started in Online Teaching, and PACT PD. She has facilitated both national and local iterations of these professional development programmes. In 2024, Marie completed the "Including Students with Intellectual Disability in Higher and Further Education" course at University College Cork, reflecting her ongoing dedication to inclusive educational practices.
