Biography

Dr. John Greaney is a Lecturer in Psychology at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT), where he teaches modules in Transpersonal and Positive Psychology, Information Design, and Multimedia, and supervises research at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His academic qualifications include a BSc and a PhD, with his expertise centered on Applied Psychology, particularly the intersection of psychology, technology, and design.

Dr. Greaney’s research focuses on how interface design can enhance cognition, mindfulness, attention, and problem-solving in real-world contexts. His projects have addressed topics such as supporting older adults with memory loss, designing flight displays for pilots, and creating accessible reading interfaces for the visually impaired. He is currently supervising postgraduate research on the development of an app to support mindful eating, a project that was awarded an IOTi research grant scholarship.

His scholarly work includes publications on cyberpsychology, mindfulness, and the psychological aspects of technology use. Notable publications include contributions to “An Introduction to Cyberpsychology” and peer-reviewed articles on mindfulness interventions and the use of technology to promote wellbeing. Dr. Greaney has presented at international conferences, including the First International Conference on Mindfulness in Rome and the MobileHCI International Conference in Stockholm, where he was awarded third prize in the International Design Competition.

Beyond his research and teaching, Dr. Greaney is actively involved in collaborative projects that combine psychology with creative design, supporting students in applying psychological principles to real-world challenges, such as app development for education and health.
