Biography

Dr Jessica Foley is a poet, lecturer, and researcher based in Dublin, Ireland. She is currently a Lecturer in Critical and Contextual Studies at the Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT). Dr Foley's work spans the fields of contemporary visual art, conceptual writing, telecommunications engineering, and critical pedagogy.

Dr Foley holds a Doctorate in Art and Engineering Studies from Trinity College Dublin, where she developed the concept of "inreach," a choreographic process of transversality that integrates artistic research into techno-scientific contexts. Her research focuses on the intersection of storytelling, poetry, and technology, exploring how these elements shape human relationships and communication.

As a co-founder of several initiatives, including the Orthogonal Methods Group and The Writing Workshop, Dr Foley has been instrumental in fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between artists and engineers. Her projects, such as Engineering Fictions and Stranger Fictions, facilitate transdisciplinary imagination through constraint-based writing games.

Dr Foley's work has been exhibited and performed internationally at venues like the Tate Modern and PS1 New York, and her writing has been published in The Stinging Fly and Bath Magg. She was awarded an Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship from 2018 to 2021, working with Prof. Rob Kitchin at Maynooth.
