Biography

Jane Buggle is the Institute Librarian at Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT), where she leads all library services for students and staff. With over 35 years of experience in academic libraries, she is recognised as a leader in the information and library management sector nationally and internationally.

Jane is deeply involved in the global library community. She is the Convenor of the IFLA Library Publishing Special Interest Group and Chair of the Library Publishing Group of the Library Association of Ireland (LAI). Additionally, she co-manages the Irish Open Access Publishers (IOAP) community of practice, promoting Diamond Open Access publishing. Jane serves on editorial and advisory boards for the All Ireland Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (AISHE-J), the DBS Business Review, and the Open Institutional Publishers Association (OIPA) in the UK.

At IADT, Jane is also the Managing Editor of the IADT Journal of Research and Creativity, overseeing the editorial process, peer review, and the journal’s commitment to open access and high academic standards. She encourages contributions from both staff and students, fostering a vibrant research culture within the institute. Jane also possesses a strong publication record in the scholarly literature, across the topics of library publishing, diamond open access publishing, and bibliodiversity.

Previously, Jane was Deputy Librarian and Learner Supports Coordinator at Dublin Business School (DBS), where she was Programme Leader for the MSc in Information and Library Management programme and lectured on library publishing. She was a founding Senior Editor of the Studies in Arts and Humanities Journal, an open access, peer-reviewed publication.

Jane has organised and presented at numerous national and international conferences, including serving on the National Organising Committee for the IFLA World Library and Information Congress 2022 in Dublin. She is known for her expertise in library publishing, open access, collection development, and leading teams through change.

Jane holds a Master’s in Library and Information Studies from University College Dublin and a Higher Diploma in Library and Information Studies from University College London. Her professional interests include creative arts, inclusive education, open access, and scholarly publishing.
