Biography
Dr Hilary Kenna is a lecturer in visual communication & user experience design (UX) design at IADT. She teaches strategic design, speculative design futures, interaction design, graphic design and typography.
She is currently the Joint Programme Chair of the BA (hons) in Graphic Design, the Posgraduate Certificate in Speculative Design Futures and the Posgraduate Certificate in Design Thinking. Hilary currently teaches on the Masters in User Experience Design and the MA in Design for Change.
Hilary is a co-founder of the Public Design Lab at IADT, and a member of IADT’s XR research group. In 2023-24, she was an NTUTTOR Academic Champion for Sustainability and Digital Transformation where she developed the Good Guide to Creative Practice with IADT student researchers.
Hilary has a PhD in Design Principles for Screen Typography from the University of Arts London. She designed the awarding-winning app The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot, which was the subject of her TedX talk, Words Made Usable. Hilary has led research projects in data visualization and her work was granted two US design patents and commercially developed into a product. Hilary has lectured about and published her work internationally.
