Description of impact
This project is a collaboration between IADT, Lusofona University, Lisbon and LUCA School of Arts, Belgium. Seed funding was provided through Film EU to create an inter-disciplinary, cross-institutional project based on scholarly and artistic research and technical innovation. Thus far the project has re-created (in virtual and physical reality) the infamous Panorama du Congo painting, commissioned to celebrate Belgian colonialism and displayed at the World’s Fairs (1913 and 1935). The project is designed to prompt discussion of colonial legacy, the decolonisation of museum collections and the role of artistic research in such discourse. To date the project has generated many conference papers and the public exhibition: Panorama of Congo - Unrolling the Past with Virtual Reality, at the National Museum of Natural History and Science (MUHNAC) in Lisbon, February 24-June 16. Curator for this exhibition with Prof. Leen Engelen (LUCA ) and Prof. Victor Flores and Ana David Mendes (Lusofona ).| Category of impact | Cultural impacts |
