The Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) Television Drama and Crime Fiction Symposium, presented by the National Film School and the Department of Humanities & Arts Management, brought academics, practitioners, and policy-makers together to provide a forum for an engaged and timely debate from diverse perspectives on television drama in Ireland in the 21st century.

The symposium covered themes such as 'from local to global', 'art, aesthetic and narrative', as well as 'the real and the imagined'. The conference was of interest to students, researchers, academics, practitioners, and policy-makers in the field of television drama, film, and media studies.

A full agenda was published closer to the event, with highlights including a 'Love/Hate' round table discussion on Thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm, and debates, panels, Q&A sessions, and keynote speeches on Friday from 9 am to 5:30 pm. Speakers and participants included Prof. Jonathan Bignell from the University of Reading; Stuart Carolan, writer and creator of 'Love/Hate'; actor John Connors from 'Love/Hate' and 'King of the Travellers'; Paul Duane, writer of 'Amber'; Jane Gogan, Head of Drama at RTÉ; director Neasa Hardiman; James Hickey from the Irish Film Board; Dr. Conn Holohan from NUIG; journalist Eoin Harris; writer James Mavor; Suzanne McAuley, producer of 'Love/Hate'; Máire Ní Chonláin, Commissioning Editor of TG4; Prof Eva Novrup Redvall from the University of Copenhagen; and Dr Lindsay Steenberg from Oxford Brookes University.
